Showout makeover

A big thank you to Weston Carls for designing my SHOWOUT logo! It is exactly what I was going for, and he captured my ideas perfectly. I'm super excited to be launching my new website within the next month. All my blog content from the past 4 years will be transferred over as well as a serious upgrade to all my other pages.

I have a few ideas for apparel, but what would you like to see on a website from a coach/personal trainer? Nutrition, workouts, supplementation, life lessons, goal coaching, etc. Let me know.

Relentless near & far

Katie attends the 5:30am Tu/Th Athletic Training class O.Henry Middle School. She recently traveled to Mexico City and climbed to the top of the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan. She threw in her own flavor by reppin' the Double C's!

Katie is Relentless inside and outside of class.  What do you do when traveling? Do you hike, relax, workout, play, all the above?

I am Irresistible

Confidence does not come out of no where. It is a result of something-- hours and days and weeks and years-- of constant work and dedication. ~Roger Staubach

Relentless Training Systems kicked off their very 1st 6-week Boot Camp 2 weeks ago. All the athletes came to orientation the Saturday before classes to get body comps complete, an overview of nutrition, and to set expectations.

I am so fired up about this new avenue within Relentless. We had over 40 athletes sign up for our 1st session and every single one of them are brand new to anything CrossFit. Niki volunteered to be the athlete we will follow over the next 6 weeks to document her success. Check out her video above.

I am passionate about making a statement in Austin, TX. Every single coach on the Relentless staff is upping the ante. Personally, I am adding more value to my athlete's experience, sharing with everyone I meet about what I do, and letting the world know what I am up. As Staubach states above, do work day in and day out and the benefits will reap.

I AM IRRESISTIBLE.

Are you irresistible? I challenge you to choose to chase confidently after your dreams and goals.

I am present to...

Tu/Th 8am class at Barton Hills

I am very present today that I am living in a city and in a career that fits me perfectly. I got back late last night from a bachelorette party in Playa del Carmen and hit today running full speed ahead. As I was catching up from the weekend, I realized how great it felt to come back from a mini-vacation ready to rock and roll. No post-vacay sadness. I was excited to see all my athletes!

I remember coming back from trips in the past and being depressed about going back to work or returning to the city where I was living. Not this time. It felt great to be back in my own bed, and to wake up and be surrounded by fellow coaches who believe in me, support me, and have the same passion driving each of our steps.

Life is too short to go through the motions. What are you present to about your life?

Synergy

This week I am big on definitions....

Synergy is defined in two ways:
1. working together.
2. two or more things functioning together to produce a result not independently obtainable

Synergy is critical when growing a business and creating new products to reshape the face of outdoor fitness in Austin. Last month Jeremy and I discussed him coming back to coach with Relentless Training Systems for our new 6-week Boot Camps. I was thrilled with the request. Jeremy is the one who taught me everything I know with how to run our Athletic Training classes, grow a class, and gave me the opportunity to run the entire outdoor branch of his business.

Fast forward a month later and the synergy between him, our marketing branch, and myself has clicked. His energy, hustle, and excitement is a new spark for our coaching staff. Without synergy, my efforts are in vain. I am fired up to work in sync with Jeremy Thiel and Jess Clark this year as we take Relentless Training Systems to brand new heights with the best coaching staff around!

Friday Morning Brunch

About once a week I am reminded...
why I love my job;
why I do what I do day in and day out;
why I keep my focus on the big picture and vision;
and why I work diligently, because I know the labor is not in vain and for a greater cause.

Last Friday I spent part of the morning with my Lake Pointe class post-workout for a Friday morning brunch at one of the athlete's house. It was absolutely perfect! A morning full of energy, sweat, and camaraderie followed my egg scramble muffins, carrot/banana muffins, bacon, fruit, mimosas, and the best part---Mary's homemade Bloody Mary's.

I encourage you to take some time today to reflect on why you do what you do. The fuel that comes from the fire of a vision, goal, and dream is unstoppable!

Meet, Lindsay!

(pictured: Coach Lindsay in the middle at the Iron Belle competition)

Meet, Lindsay! She is one of the most disciplined and empathetic individuals I know, which clearly plays into 2 of her strengths, Discipline and Empathy. Lindsay was married about a month ago, and her life has been flipped upside down since then. However, this woman has come out of the gates ready and on fire to take Relentless and her life to new heights.

I am excited to watch her skill sets expand our corporate wellness division (RAW), and utilize her new talents of videography to capture the true essence of Relentless Training! Check out her 1st video production HERE.

Lindsay is a top-notch, caring, one-of-a-kind people that you want to know and be her friend. I am thankful to have this young lady on our team and to work along side her.

Work hard; play hard

Megan and Mary are a mother-daughter duo. Megan joined her mom this summer at Relentless Boot Camp while she was home from college. ClearLLLLLLLLLLLLy they know the greatness of SPARK and paired it with beer at Oktoberfest in Germany. Now that is what I call good to GREAT! Megan, Mary, and I are on the same page-- BALANCE -- or what I also like to call it, Work hard; Play hard.

Where's my Sashimi?

Michelle attends the Tu/Th 6:30am Relentless Boot Camp at O.Henry Middle School. Last week she ventured to the lovely beaches of TX in Port A and experienced her very 1st deep sea fishing trip. Her recap of the adventure brings even more awareness of why being fit across all domains is vital in all aspects of life and not just fitness. Nice work!! Michelle writes...

Exhilarating and exhausting!

My first catch was a 20+lb TUNA!  One of the hardest things I have done in awhile...it took every ounce of strength (thank you CrossFit) and a lot of mental determination. There were definitely moments of wanting to hand over the fishing pole...but that is not the meaning of RELENTLESS!  And although I had complete muscle fatigue I was able to recover and catch a few more fish!

I have a whole new appreciation for the sport of fishing!  And yes we had TUNA sashimi ---delicious! What a wild experience!

Zilker Relays

Manzano Mile Relay...now on to the next one...

Zilker Relays are right around the corner. I ran last year with Big Mike, Jen C, and Web. We had a blast! I am competing again this year with 3 other coaches at CrossFit Central. I feel more ready than ever for the 2.5 mile loop.

Consistently over the past few months I have done a weekly track workout. The training includes explosive intervals with short, timed rest breaks. Just this past Friday I did the following:

3 rounds-
300m sprint, rest 90sec
200m sprint, rest 60sec
100m sprint, rest 45 sec

4 minute break

Barefoot on the football field---
10 yd sprint, 10 yd back peddle, 20 yd sprint-- x 6 with 30 seconds rest

Over the next few weeks I will focus more on timed intervals, similar to the workout above, and include a few more CrossFit workouts with 400m, 600m, and 800m runs as well as drop into a Relentless Boot Camp once a week.

Watch out for Team CrossFit Central on September 2nd!

Insanely Great

Relentless Boot Camps are bringing on new coaches constantly. We are on a mission to train these coaches to be the best in their field in all capacities---coaching, business, personal life. I received the email below today, and it hit the nail on the head.

I am the first to admit that I want everything yesterday. However, I am very aware to be insanely great does not happen over night. Patience. Diligence. No excuses. And HUSTLE go a long way. I am a firm believer that if you want something bad enough, you will find a way to make it happen. For me, it was making a livelihood doing what I love and no one was going to stomp on that dream. I am more fulfilled than ever and ready for bigger challenges.

 Here's to chippin' away at 10,000 hours....BAM!

In today's world of 27 year old billionaires it's easy to
a) believe that success at a young age is the norm, and that
b) If you aren't rich and famous before 30, your life is a waste.

Malcolm Gladwell in
"Outliers", makes the case that one needs to spend 10,000 hours mastering a skill in order to be successful at that skill.

I'm not sure if 10,000 hours is the correct amount of time, but I do know that as one gets older and more experienced at a task, it not only becomes easier, but easier to work to a higher level.

It doesn't matter if you are writing, playing the piano, auditing or cartooning. There is a level of insight that one only achieves through time.

This is not to be confused with 'right place, right time', or 'emotional intelligence', physically demanding work  or other factors in monetary success, but being "insanely great" at something doesn't happen over night.

Cheers!

The above picture is simply a continuation of why I love my job. The showout ladies in the MWF class at Lake Pointe surprised me with orange juice and champagne for a post-workout celebratory toast for Austin Fit magazine's 10 Fittest. It is because of people like them in my life that make dreams a reality.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who voted and brought more recognition to Relentless Boot Camp and CrossFit Central. We will be a house hold name by Spring 2012. BAM.

Relentless from afar

Oh let me count the reasons why I love my job...

A 2+ year Relentless athlete, Michelle, could quite possibly be one of the top spokeswomen for Relentless Boot Camp. Michelle introduced her friend Rachel to my blog along with CrossFit Central's and Relentless's website. Rachel recruited some ladies in Vermont and they are doing there own version of CrossFit based on what they have learned from our websites!

Below is part of an email I receive after Rachel completes her 1st IronMan at the age of 39 with 3 children. To preface, I have never met nor spoken to this woman, but I am amazed how connected people can be via an online outlet.

Hi Megan!  I feel like I know you already.  My good friend Michelle just came home to cheer me on at the Lake Placid Ironman.  She introduced me to CrossFit and Paleo last summer and I have been doing it since then.  We have one CrossFit program in Bennington, VT.... Anyway, I have been getting workouts from the Relentless Boot Camp website for the past year and me and three girlfriends do them three times a week on our own.  Thank you for helping me from afar!  I feel strong and fit...

Thanks!

Rachel

Another spectator sees Michelle running with Rachel, cheering her on, jumping over a fence, climbing over some tables to run, then back to the finish to tell her family she was coming...as she went by him he said "WOW your are relentless!"(The blue tee says it all.)

Are you magnesium deficient?

The past month I have been restless. Tossing and turning all through the night. Not getting a good night's sleep. Waking up tired and constantly sore from workouts. Getting calf cramps in the middle of the night. Fatigued. ClearLLLLLLLLLLLLy not a good combo for a Relentless Boot Camp coach.

I visited People's Pharmacy a while back and they recommended Magnesium. Needless to say, I remembered that conversation last week and made a quick trip to the pharmacy. Here it is 1 week later and I feel 100% better. If you think you may be magnesium deficient, read this NOW.

The Miracle Product = Premier Magnesium Glycinate

Meg's Dosage: 2 capsules when waking, 2 mid-afternoon, 2 before bed.

Go Katie!

A big shout out to Katie in the 5:30am Tu/Th O. Henry class! This young lady is a 22 year old student at UT. She is working a full-time internship this summer and has made absolutely no excuses about getting up early to workout. In my experience, that is not typical behavior for college students. I have no doubt she will achieve every fitness goal she has written down. I am honored to coach her. Check out a recent email below from Katie...

...It's so weird to think that a year ago I never cooked, ate out all the time and had prepackaged food probably every day and worked out probably once every 6 months. Then I spent 4 months in Italy eating pasta at every lunch and dinner!!! I am digging my new life, feeling healthier, more energized and happier every day. I really think boot camp has been the one reason why my life has gotten so much better over the past few months. I'm gonna keep working hard and pushing myself!!

Thank you thank you thank you!!!
