No more flip flops!

WOW! I just watched the above Mobility video by KStar, and I will officially never wear flip-flops again. Since January my foot has gone from plantar fasciitis, to achilles tendonitis, to now my achilles and calcaneus bone ache all the time.

I am doing the following for treatment:
  • 15 minute ice bath up to mid-calf on days I workout
  • Weekly Airrosti treatments
  • Trigger Point on my calves
  • Stretching calves
  • Sleeping in a Strassburg sock
  • Not running, but rowing--- which is driving me nuts!
One thing missing is changing up my daily foot wear and eliminating flip-flops. I wear Reefs all summer long and sometimes even in the winter-- it is TX. My mission now is to find a stylish pair of summer sandals without the flip-flop toe separation. If you have any suggestions, post a comment below.

As KStar stated, and I firmly agree--- ATHLETES DON'T WEAR FLIP FLOPS.

Relentless Traveler

Ginger attends my Tu/Th 6:30am Athletic Training class at O.Henry. I love when clients send me pics while on vacation that show them in their workout clothes, especially tropical one's since I am a Sun Goddess =). Below is a little email from Ginger post workout...

Email Subject line read: Burpees in Costa Rica
And pushups, situps, squats, and running.  Just hoping the dirt on my legs was parasite free. Maybe you can come visit us when we move down here -- it's muddy and extremely humid here, but incredibly gorgeous and not very hot most of the time...Tell everybody hi.

Are you traveling this summer? If so, the natural surroundings can be your best friend to get in a workout. Get creative and be Relentless while on vacation.

Chlorophyll

After Jeremy, Big Mike, and Travis returned from a 10-day conference in Fiji with Tony Robbins, they brought back a wealth of knowledge on the importance of alkalinity. Below are characteristics that exist within an acidic culture and an alkaline environment.

ACIDIC ENVIRONMENT- based out of fear
  • Anxiety
  • Confusion
  • Frustration
  • Lack of sleep
  • Sickness
  • Anger
  • Stress
ALKALINE ENVIRONMENT- based out of love & passion
  • Easy
  • Fun
  • Happy
  • Clarity
  • Harmony
  • Trust
  • Energy
  • Relaxed
  • Empowered
  • Focus
I know I want to be living in an alkaline state at all times, and Jeremy challenged our staff to be doing the same. We all tested our acidity using pH test strips. The 1st time I tested it I was wayyyyyyyyy acidic. I'm still convinced I messed up; however, the past two times I've tested my acidity levels I've been at 7.2 and 7.0--->ALKALINE. Go here for more details on a pH balance ranges..

One thing I added to my normal routine is 1TB of Chlorophyll to my water. I found my bottle of Chlorofresh (pictured above) at Whole Food's. It has a mint flavor and is very refreshing. Chlorophyll acts as an internal deodorant. It helps to balance glucose levels, is a high alkaline source, and balances pH. I recommend anyone adding this to their daily regimen, especially those that test acidic.

If you don't know where to start to get alkaline, go here for a detailed listing of acidic and alkaline foods. I choose to live in the culture of love and passion. Here's to thriving in an alkaline state!

PCOS: Supplements

I met with Coach Crystal Nelson a few weeks ago and did my very 1st functional test to see what we could find out from a holistic/nutritional standpoint regarding my PCOS.  Crystal recently completed her Nutritional Therapy Practitioner schooling, and I thought what better way to put her work into practice then to help me figure out what the heck is going on with my body.

Prior to my visit I completed a quiz that took around 30 minutes answering an array of questions, which help to better prepare Crystal for my initial in-house appointment. At our visit she performed different tests all over my body, and I let her know the pain level at each place on a scale of 1-10. I was surprised at how many points on my body that caused extreme pain.  This form of testing is called lingual-neuro testing.

Once the initial testing was done, she then had me put different supplements on my tongue to dissolve and then we re-tested the same spots that scored high on the first test. I was floored when a point in my abdomen dropped from a 10 to a 2 by only taking a supplements and immediately feeling a difference.  That is how you know what you are putting in your body is working the moment it touches your tongue. I found out shortly after MDs learn this form of testing in medical school yet do not do it because it takes too long. Go figure.

After it was all said and done I am officially on ton of supplements; however, the goal is to eventually wean off a lot of them and to get my body functioning back to full capacity. Here's the list:
  • Beta Plus: improves gallbladder function
  • HCL-Plus
  • Colon-Plus: helps support GI function
  • Equi-Fem: support female endocrine function. I also like to think of this as my multi-vitamin
  • Livotrit Plus: support for healthy liver metabolism
  • BioDoph-7 Plus: probiotic
  • Iodine Forte: testing my iodine levels was one of the craziest tests to me. Crystal colored a yellow square on my forearm and told me to let her know when it faded away. Ideally, the yellow square should have stayed until later the next day; however, mine faded within 2 hrs due to my lack of iodine and my body literally sucking it up.
  • b-Vital: increase testosterone
  • Intenzyme Forte: little pac-man that literally break down cysts
  • Ca-D Glucarate: Works to detox estrogens
  • BioPause-AM: Increases progesterone. Contains chaste berry & other herbs I discussed in a previous post.
  • Vitamin D- I am using Pure encapsulations 10,000 IU found at People's Rx.
I cannot say enough how great I have felt with only being on the supplements for a little over a week. I am following up with Crystal to re-test everything at the end of the month to see how I am responding. Now that's the kind of "doctor" I want to help me.

Watermelons

Tu/Th 6:30am O.Henry Athletic Training
I am fortunate enough to coach individuals who show up day in and day out regardless of the weather conditions. Rain, cold, humidity, hot--- everyone comes to class ready to work hard. I wish you could have seen this picture up close directly after the workout, everyone was literally drenched. On Tuesday I wanted to celebrate 4th of July and each of my athletes with a simple, yet cold and refreshing treat-- WATERMELON. Who would have thought that watermelon would taste so good after a hard, sweaty workout.

Here's to the amazing individuals I coach and to many more watermelon surprises!
