Meet Armando

I have the privilege of coaching some amazing athletes. Armando attends my Tu/Th 6:30am Level 2 boot camp at O.Henry. Not only is he the life of the class, he is the Director for annual support at the Dell Children's Medical Center Foundation.

In the Winter 2012 issue of the ATX Man, Armando was featured in the philanthropy section in the article titled-- The Dell Children's Hospital Gala. He writes, "if you are able to inspire people to do good, then why not?" The message of this year's gala is "YOU." Read the entire article HERE on page 40.

Athletes like Armando allow me to see life outside the fitness box. His work is inspiring and pushes me to do more for the community. How do you plan to give back in the new year?

Relentless Trail Racers

Michelle & Davianne attend my Tu/Th 6:30am Athletic Training class at O.Henry. They took on Capt'n Karl's Night-Time Trail Running this summer that entailed a lot more than simply running.  Austin Fit Magazine shares the history behind the event, where the name originated, and how this four-race series was named one of the top 32 trail events in the United States in Runner’s World’s special publication on trail running.

Check out Davianne & Michelle's recap below.

Davianne and Michelle's summer adventures!  We survived! No cuts, bruises or broken bones. Just one slightly twisted ankle and a whole lot of laughs.  We decided to test our strength, agility and coordination with a little nighttime trail running.  We did 3 out of the 4 races, all 10k distance in various state parks around Austin.  The last one was adventure, because it truly was dark for a good part of the run.   The sense of camaraderie that goes hand in hand with the trail running community is refreshing and inspiring.  Next year WE WILL be doing at least one 30k!

Our mantra was...  Follow the light, Stay Upright, and then of course...  Team work makes Dream work!

As always my athletes inspire me to do more, try new things, and continue to improve myself. I will take on a 10K on the trail with them next summer, no doubt! Looks like I was with them in spirit according to their mantra-- Teamwork makes the dream work.

Happy Birthday, Michelle!

40 Burpee Buy in
My 5:30am & 6:30am O.Henry and 8am Barton Hills Athletic Training classes took on Michelle's 40th Birthday WOD today, and it was a doozie. Michelle is a dear friend of mine and has been in Relentless Training for close to 3 years. My goal is to be in shape just like her by the time I turn 40, which is closer than I realize--> 9 years to go!

40th Birthday WOD
Buy-in: 40 burpees

O.Henry class took off from the school and ran up the hill on 12th St. to Meriden and back.
Barton Hills class ran up Wilke and back.
1 round-
40 American/Russian swings (alternating back & forth)
40 thrusters
40 dips
40 frog jumps
Finish with the same run from above.

The workout took anywhere from 23-28 minutes. I was very proud of all my athletes today! I have some brand new gals who just joined from our 6-Week Boot Camp and they did awesome. You are never too out of shape or too fast to get in a Relentless workout. We meet you right where you are and push it to the limit.

Email me at meganparsons@crossfitcentral.com to try one of my classes complimentary.

London Labor

Edinburgh Castle
Michelle attends my Tu/Th 6:30am Athletic Training class at O.Henry Middle School. She traveled to London this past week for the Virgin London Marathon and wanted to stay on top of her workouts while out of the country. I pulled together body weight movement exercises for her to do over the course of the 7 days. Below is the compilation. Michelle said it best when describing the picture above...."The queen comes for a week or two in the summer. Pretty sure she doesn't do lunges!!"

LONDON LABOR

1000 walking lunges
900 situps (butterfly, regular, suitcase, or V-ups)
800 Knees to elbow (every side counts as a rep)
700 lateral jumps
600 squats
500 froggies
400 burpees
300 pushups
200 grasshoppers
100m sprint x 10 times

*All the reps need to be completed within the 7 days. Break up as needed over the week.

Never use the excuse that you cannot workout while traveling. Where there is a will there is a way. All it takes is a little preparation and a fun attitude.

Small group training forming NOW

I am a huge proponent of interval track work paired with bleachers, body weight exercises, kettlebells,  and exercise bands. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) training is all about speed. Speed during exercises - it's intense. Speed during workouts - usually they last less than 20 minutes and speed for results. A HIIT workout will lose up to 9 times more fat than a similar cardio workout. HIIT training has a number of distinct goals and differences which make it unique.

One of the key principles around  HIIT is preventing a plateau. It’s designed around pushing your body to constantly adapt. Get off your plateau or simply get off your butt and take advantage of training with the Pump & Shred crew.

Personally I love training with 1 or 2 other people to enhance the level of accountability and to have someone to encourage me, sweat with me, and have fun. Training in a small group with a personal trainer offers the benefits of 1-on-1 training with half the cost. Lots of attention and more bang for your buck.

Relentless near & far

Katie attends the 5:30am Tu/Th Athletic Training class O.Henry Middle School. She recently traveled to Mexico City and climbed to the top of the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan. She threw in her own flavor by reppin' the Double C's!

Katie is Relentless inside and outside of class.  What do you do when traveling? Do you hike, relax, workout, play, all the above?

Less Running BUT More PRs

A big CONGRATS to all my Relentless athletes who broke records and went out and ran the 3M half-marathon yesterday. I was smiling from ear to ear as I received emails, texts, and Facebook messages from everyone sharing their success.

Michelle's text- "1:53 3M half. Thank you CrossFit, little run training, bum foot but felt strong."

Becky's Facebook message- "Thanks to you Matt & I ran the 1/2 in under 1:40. Woohooo!"

Tina's email- "Hope you had a good weekend. Just wanted to let you know that I beat my 1/2 marathon goal -- my time was: 1:57 and 43 seconds -- woo hoo."

If you are still on the fence of how Relentless Athletic Training can prepare you for races with less distance training, then come to a class for FREE and see what it is all about. Send me an email at meganparsons@crossfitcentral.com to get on the list.

Susan's trip

Susan is one of my 1st athletes that started with me 2.5 years ago. She recently traveled to Zihuatanejo and sent me gorgeous pics of where she stayed. Susan knows me all too well and that I love the sun. These pictures got me fired up for my SunGoddess excursion this February to celebrate TinyFIT's bachelorette party.

Do you plan trips at key times to rejuvenate during difficult seasons? For me, the trip must be warm. Not cold weather skiing for this girl.

Thank you, Lauren!

This is why I do what I do. This is why I get up when it's freezing cold outside and bring the energy, focus, and intensity to each Relentless workout. This is why I am blessed.

Thanks for sharing about the San Antonio 1/2 marathon, Lauren!

I am wanting to let u know that I thought of you today while I was running. I want to tell you how thankful I am to have you as a coach and pushing me and getting me better as a whole, Even though you may not realize it..
I did not even train for this half and beat my time by 10:00 minutes!!! I was running 4-5 miles and 6 on a "good" day.  I almost backed out of this run after not feeling well the past few weeks but couldn't allow myself to..
I stopped for water only twice and I had so much energy and felt great throughout.. I owe this to you!!

Thanks meg!!

Xo

Where's my Sashimi?

Michelle attends the Tu/Th 6:30am Relentless Boot Camp at O.Henry Middle School. Last week she ventured to the lovely beaches of TX in Port A and experienced her very 1st deep sea fishing trip. Her recap of the adventure brings even more awareness of why being fit across all domains is vital in all aspects of life and not just fitness. Nice work!! Michelle writes...

Exhilarating and exhausting!

My first catch was a 20+lb TUNA!  One of the hardest things I have done in awhile...it took every ounce of strength (thank you CrossFit) and a lot of mental determination. There were definitely moments of wanting to hand over the fishing pole...but that is not the meaning of RELENTLESS!  And although I had complete muscle fatigue I was able to recover and catch a few more fish!

I have a whole new appreciation for the sport of fishing!  And yes we had TUNA sashimi ---delicious! What a wild experience!

Go Katie!

A big shout out to Katie in the 5:30am Tu/Th O. Henry class! This young lady is a 22 year old student at UT. She is working a full-time internship this summer and has made absolutely no excuses about getting up early to workout. In my experience, that is not typical behavior for college students. I have no doubt she will achieve every fitness goal she has written down. I am honored to coach her. Check out a recent email below from Katie...

...It's so weird to think that a year ago I never cooked, ate out all the time and had prepackaged food probably every day and worked out probably once every 6 months. Then I spent 4 months in Italy eating pasta at every lunch and dinner!!! I am digging my new life, feeling healthier, more energized and happier every day. I really think boot camp has been the one reason why my life has gotten so much better over the past few months. I'm gonna keep working hard and pushing myself!!

Thank you thank you thank you!!!
