Pump & Shred Personal Training Program

I am fired up to announce the launch of a new personal training program, Pump & Shred, now available at Hyde Park Gym.

The goal of the program is the following:
  1. To build muscle and the make the body more symmetrical--> PUMP
  2. Lean out and improve cardiovascular endurance--> SHRED
The Pump & Shred program is a combination of isolation exercises and super sets using barbells, kettlebells, and dumbbells done at Hyde Park Gym paired with a day of outside training either at a track or in the alley of Hyde Park that incorporates sprints, sled pulls, prowler pushes, and bleachers.

The program is a 2x or 3x per week commitment complete with nutrition and supplement advice. Pump & Shred is a byproduct of the training co-creator Jessica Clark and I have been using to prepare for our first Figure Show on July 21st, The Naturally Fit Super Show.

I have availability on MWF at mid-morning and lunchtime. If these times don’t work with your schedule, I invite you to pump and shred with my partner in crime, Jess. Contact us for more info on scheduling. Who is ready to pump and shred their way to a new physique?

Rates: Individuals $55 per session; Groups of 2 $45 per person, per session; Groups of 3 $40 per person, per session.

Follow the Pump and Shred crew on Twitter!

Synergy

This week I am big on definitions....

Synergy is defined in two ways:
1. working together.
2. two or more things functioning together to produce a result not independently obtainable

Synergy is critical when growing a business and creating new products to reshape the face of outdoor fitness in Austin. Last month Jeremy and I discussed him coming back to coach with Relentless Training Systems for our new 6-week Boot Camps. I was thrilled with the request. Jeremy is the one who taught me everything I know with how to run our Athletic Training classes, grow a class, and gave me the opportunity to run the entire outdoor branch of his business.

Fast forward a month later and the synergy between him, our marketing branch, and myself has clicked. His energy, hustle, and excitement is a new spark for our coaching staff. Without synergy, my efforts are in vain. I am fired up to work in sync with Jeremy Thiel and Jess Clark this year as we take Relentless Training Systems to brand new heights with the best coaching staff around!

What do you want?

"The indispensable first step to getting things you want out of life is this: decide what you want." -Ben Stein

This time of year is when I reflect on what I have accomplished over the past year, and where I want to go in the new year. A trend I follow year after year is laser focus on my career goals and very little time dreaming in the spiritual realm and focusing on personal goals. In 2012 I will have balance between the two. Both are extremely important to me; however, one should not take precedent over the other.

I think it's easier for me to get fired up about career aspirations because a team is involved. In 2012, Relentless Training Systems is launching our new 6-week Boot Camps along with streamlined programming across all Athletic Training classes. My goal is to have 375 athletes in Relentless by the start of the round 2 of Boot Camp on April 2nd.

A new adventure for me this upcoming year is I will be competing in a figure show on July 21st. I have never done anything like this before, and I am super excited to take on this  journey with Clarkie. The extra nudge from her is what convinced me to take a leap of faith to train and compete in something new. Mark it down...I will win.

I am enjoying every bit of my 2 week break from coaching Athletic Training classes and catching up on some much needed sleep. I am also enjoying this time of clarity and deciding exactly what I want just as Stein states above.

What do you want out of 2012?

Fresh start

(I'm in the top left)

Coach Travis Holley challenged everyone on his blog to The Wake Up Challenge this past Monday. After the Monday I had from being worn out and simply not in the mood to do anything, I took on this challenge full speed ahead.

I popped out of bed on Tuesday morning at 4:50 and the 1st thing I said in the mirror, as I am popping my Advocare, was the following:

Incantation 1: Awesome stuff finds me as I live an authentic life!

Incantation 2: I make a difference. I am beautiful. I am balanced!

These are 2 incantations I have been alternating back and forth each morning. Both resonate with me from different places. After only 4 days of this practice, crazy things have been happening.
  • A new possible personal training client
  • Brother moving to Austin in a week
  • New revenue stream for Relentless Training Systems with GGBP
  • Meeting people the most random ways and developing new friendships
  • After a talk with Clarkie, I am way more open to the possibility of competing in a Figure competition
  • Random people asking to order Advocare care from me
These are a few examples. The biggest shift has been in my attitude and being present all through out the day. This challenge will go well beyond 2 weeks for me. Once again I understand how extremely powerful is the mind! I dare you to jump on board.

Passage I read this morning-- Giving the events of your life (even the crappy ones) an empowering meaning is something we condition. It's something we get stronger and stronger at over time. It's not a quick fix. But we can rewire our brain (aka our thoughts) to look out into the world from a different point of view. What you look for will determine what you find. How you look out into the world will determine your emotions and thoughts, which determine your actions, which creates your life.

Meet, Clarkie

pictured: Me, Coach Crystal McReynolds, & Clarkie
Meet, Jessica Clark, also known as Clarkie! Jess is a colleague and a dear friend. She came on board with Relentless Training Systems as the Marketing Director and a coach full-time this past month. I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to work along side this lady and to learn from her.

Jess encompasses every bit of her 5 strengths: Significance, Learner, Command, Discipline, Activator. The more I work with Jess I see the Activator and Discipline shine. When an idea is being created, this woman is someone you want to go to immediately to help execute with quick turn-around.

The beauty behind my job is I am able to develop true, lasting friendships with each person I work with daily. Jess is the person in my life who I can count on to be professional and get work done when it's that time, BUT also the person who I can be myself around, lean on for honest feedback, and showout.

Jess is a dynamic player on Team PURSUIT! I am thankful to have her on our team.

Team PURSUIT

2 of the 6 members of Team PURSUIT sportin' CFC Endurance tanks
Have you read Strength Finders 2.0 by Tom Rath? Great book and I highly recommend it. At CrossFit Central we strive for excellence, which is rooted in our core values of Trust, Honor, Integrity, and Loyalty.

The entire staff has been split up into 4 teams, and I have the honor to work directly with Jess Clark, Heather Reed, Karen Pierce, Chels Ross, Lindsay Spurck, and Kat G. We all completed the Strengths Finders test this past weekend. It was amazing to see how spot on the test was with where we all stand.

Just this week alone, I have met with 4 of the 6 team members and learned so much about where they are going; what their up to; their dreams, desires, passion, motivation. I am blessed to work with such loyal colleagues/friends. We are called Team PURSUIT.

Playing Unbroken & Realizing Strengths Under Intense Tenancity

My Strengths are the following:
Arranger- A conductor. Figure out the best way to get things done.
Woo- Winning others over. Enjoys the challenge of meeting new people and getting them to like you.
Communication-To explain, to describe, to host, to speak in public, and to write. The need to bring ideas/events to life.
Achiever- Constant need for achievement. Everyday starts at zero.
Focus- Set goals. Needs a clear destination and knows where they are going.

For you that know me, these Strengths are right on target. I say the word, "FOCUS," daily to my clients. The Woo almost cracks me up, because I absolutely feed off the energy of meeting new people and consistently make it a game to see how many people I can meet in new settings.

Within each of Strengths, there is the flip side that does not work in my favor; however, that is the beauty of this entire training. Finding out everyone's Strengths and spending 80% of the time working in that domain versus focusing on how to "change" people to make them work more in line with what you think is best.

Time to play the Strength game.

Dreaming to Reality.

Carly, Michelle, Me, & Michelle at the Paramount Gala.
Part of Team Relentless Boot Camp at Fight for Air Climb
"Don't be afraid of the space between your dreams and reality. If you can dream it, you can make it so." -Belva Davis

I love the moments when you pinch yourself, because you almost can't believe how great life is at the moment. Saturday was one of those days where 2 years ago I could only dream to have a day so fun and rewarding----Racing to the top of a building. Meeting new people excited to get in better shape. Dancing around on a stage at 8am to warm-up people for Fight for Air. Track workout with Coach Jess. Celebration lunch at Polvos. Fabulous evening at the Paramount with Smokey Robinson in concert. Birthday celebration with fellow Relentless boot camper, Norma.

Now it's a reality.  I simply want to say a big THANK YOU to all my friends and clients. Each of you have truly changed my life.

Glowsticks

(Carey, Jess, Me, Jenifer)
A couple of weeks ago Michelle & Jenifer (6:30am Tu/Th Deep Eddy bootcampers), Coach Jess Clark, and myself ventured to The Long Center for the Fitness Flash Mob. Great event! My favorite part was doing the "Billy Blanks" with the glow sticks and yoga with Bekah from Lulu. I loved every minute of meeting  new people, sportin the Double Cs, and giving back to the community.

Watch the video in it's entirety to see the Japanese flag made with glow sticks!

I challenge you this month to pick an event within the Austin community and give back. As I learned yesterday, You can't out give a giver.

Zucchini Pancakes

One of Relentless Boot Camps new up and coming coaches, Jessica Clark, tweeted about Zucchini pancakes. After reading the simple ingredients and directions I knew I wanted to try them.

All that is needed is coconut flour, eggs, zucchini, salt, and pepper. View the complete recipe HERE. I did not have enough zucchini so I also included eggplant.

WARNING: I bought a food processor on Thursday to make this recipe and had a few hiccups. There is clearly a difference between using the shredding disc vs. pulsing the food. The zucchini and eggplant were "processed" a bit too much and became runny; however, the final product still tasted great. It just did not look as fabulous as the Balanced Bites picture.

I paired my Zucchini pancakes with chicken sausage. YUMO!

I am trying the sweet potato pancakes tomorrow morning before the LIVESTRONG Austin Half Marathon. The Paleo way to "carb load."
