Austin Marathon

A 6:30AM Tu/Th Deep Eddy boot camper, Michelle, is one of the head-honchos for the Austin Marathon. She invited me on Sunday to hang out VIP and experience the race. Little did I know she had her own little ulterior motives.

A little background---I ran Cross Country and track growing up and once I graduated from high school I was done. Dunskies. No more long runs ever.

After watching each athlete come across the finish line on Sunday, I was inspired. People of all shapes, sizes, fitness levels, and ages competed. After about an hour, Paige, Whitney, and I decided we are running the half-marathon next year. Woohoo!!!!!!!! I am so excited to do this because I WANT to do it. No one is telling me I have to...I am running because I am inspired to use my athletic abilities in all capacities. My plan is to continue my CrossFit workouts as is and include 2 more endurance workouts in a week, with one being a long run. It's my little test to see/show everyone how well CrossFit prepares one for mid-distance races without crazy amounts of mileage.

Props to you, Michelle. Your little trick worked!!!

  3. Congratulations on your decision, Megan! That's how Dave and I decided to run, too... we volunteered in 2008 and after seeing all the happy runners, we decided to do the 2009 half. Have fun with your training!

  4. Congratulations on your decesion to run the half marathon. I have run the Austin Marathon because I want to and because I want to test the CrossFit methodology, and how it prepares you "for the unkown and unknowable". I have done it both years only on CrossFit training and no supplemental running. It was a painful but gratifying experience.
